Mee Gang Cho was born in 1940 in rural Choong Chung Province, Korea. She was the youngest of three daughters. The family traveled to the provincial capital and registered her birth officially on October 5, 1940, several weeks after her birth.
She attended Ewha Women's High School and Ewha Women's University in Seoul, where she studied English and graduated with a bachelor's degree. She remained in Seoul working in human resources for a trading company.
She met Tai Jun Cho when they were elementary students in Geonggi Province. They married in 1966, and the couple came to the United States later the same year for him to continue his studies in Los Angeles. Their daughter Theresa was born a few years later. The family relocated to Riverside for her husband's graduate studies, where their second daughter Maggie was born.
They later moved to Baldwin Park, California, where they lived from 1979 until 2016 and had a son, Erik. She spent 11 years working as a medical insurance administrator for Security Pacific Bank. During the latter part of her career, she was a business owner, operating a series of independent fast food restaurants.
After retiring from restaurant business in 2002, she was active in pursuits including travel, piano lessons, and yoga, and she enjoyed family gatherings and time with her grandchildren. In 2015 she was diagnosed with progressive supranuclear palsy, a debilitating neurologic disorder. She came to live with her daughter Theresa and her family in Camarillo in 2016.
