Maud Clear Wahl: Born in Viljandi, Estonia October 14, 1925 to Karl August Wahl and Veronica Seeberg-Wahl-Eichfuss

She was the second born of 5 children, two boys, Hasso and Harro and 3 girls, Eva Maud and Arda. Maudy prided herself that she was the defender of her brother from the big bullies in school.

She loved art and desired to be a commercial artist but World War 2 changed everything. Although her art studies came to an abrupt halt she and her sister Arda created pen and ink drawings of familiar landmarks from their native Estonia and Germany selling them to help support for the family during the war years.

The family left Estonia in 1939 fleeing from the invasion of the Russian Army, eventually settling in Himmelford near the Hamburg/Bremen area of Germany.

Maudy's family was able to emigrate to the US, where their sponsor, Jerome Herrick (Hurych), a Professor of chemistry living in Watchung, fell in love with Maudy. In 1952, Tamara was born in New York. The relationship did not work out, and the family, move to California in 1955 and settled into 2 large, 5-bedroom homes in the mid-Wilshire area of Los Angeles. Maudy eventually found a job as an accounts payable clerk at the Southern California Edison Company where she continued for over 30 years until her retirement. She was an integral part of family life both in difficult and happy times. She enjoyed traveling whether it was to the local beaches, mountains, or inside and outside of the USA.

Her daughter Tamara married Burt Jones in 1994 and her grandson Andrew was born to a very proud Oma in 2001. As a dedicated mother and grandmother it was her duty to travel to Saudi Arabia in 2012 to approve of her families new living circumstances.

Maudy drifted peacefully into eternity March 2, 2019 after a short battle with pneumonia. At 93 years old, she had lived a full, rich life. We all miss her dearly.
