Matthew Fredrick Long

d. July 25, 2019

It is with great sadness that the family of Matthew F. Long announces his passing, on Thursday, July 25, 2019. Matthew, known to friends as Matt, will be lovingly and forever remembered by his wife and best friend of 21 years, Judy, his stepdaughter, Alex, and his niece and nephew, Nikki and Kevin. Matt will also be fondly remembered by his brother, Dave, mother-in-law, Emmie, sister-in-law, Maria "Lou," his furry children, Bailey and Gizmo, and grand-furry-son, Henry. Matt was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Karen Long, and his older sister, Tammie.

Matt served in the US Marine Corps as a rifleman, from 1994 to 1998. His medals, badges, ribbons, and campaigns include the Rifle Marksmanship Badge, National Defense Service Medal, AE Operations Southern Watch, and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. The patriotism he learned in the military never left him, as friends and family will attest. Matt loved the outdoors and shared his wife's passion for travel and adventure. He will always be remembered as a faithful husband, a devoted family man, and a protector of everyone he loved.

A private memorial service in honor of Matt was held at Forest Lawn, Cypress, on Saturday, August 24, 2019. Grateful for the richness of his life, the kindness of his heart, and the love of his friends, the family of Matt wishes to convey their deep appreciation and sincere thanks for the kind expression of sympathy, tribute, love, and prayers. Special thanks to Pastor Randy Hill, Chris Goben (Memorial Counselor, Forest Lawn), The Papelera Family, The Phillips Family, and Senior Airman Carl Bernier.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Semper Fi Fund, 825 College Boulevard Suite 102, PMB 609, Oceanside, CA 92057. For online donations: https://semperfifund.org/donate/
