Chester, NH: MaryLou (Gagnon) Hamel, 80, a former resident of Plaistow from 1961 until 2006, died Friday, April 1, 2016, her sixtieth wedding anniversary, at Colonial Poplin Nursing Home in Fremont with her family by her side.

Born in Groveland, MA, daughter of the late Louis and Louise (Cook) Gagnon, she graduated from Haverhill High School in1955 and later the Addison-Gilbert Hospital School of Nursing in Gloucester.

Mrs. Hamel was a Licensed Practical Nurse employed for twenty years in the Pediatrics Department of the former Hale Hospital, and also worked at Pentucket Medical as a nurse for Dr. Consentino. She last worked at Northeast Paramedics as an Insurance Physical Examiner until her retirement.

A former member of Holy Angels Church of Plaistow, Mrs. Hamel enjoyed knitting, reading, traveling to Florida and traveling in her recreational vehicle. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her husband of sixty years, John R. Hamel, a son and daughter-in-law Scott R. and Roseann Hamel of Hampstead, a daughter and son-in-law, Susan E. and Richard LaBrie of Chester, a sister, Eileen Cummings of Haverhill, eight grandchildren, two step, grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Kathleen Coy.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Life Celebration to be held on Tuesday evening, April 5, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Plaistow. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home with a Mass of Christian burial at 10a.m. in Holy Angels Church of Saint Luke the Evangelist Parish, Plaistow. Donations in Memory of Mrs. Hamel should be sent to the John Hamel Scholarship Fund c/o Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational School, 100 Hemlock Road, Wakefield, MA.
