Maryanne Murphy, a beacon of generosity, creativity, and courage, passed away peacefully at her home in West Covina on April 22, 2025. She was born on June 5, 1937, in Dobbs Ferry, New York.
Maryanne's journey through life was as vibrant and nurturing as the flowers she tended in her garden.
She was a bright and eager student attending Dobbs Ferry High School, then Capital City School of Nursing at Washington D.C. General Hospital. She was President of her class and the student body and graduated Cum Laude. Her commitment to healing and helping others was already evident.
Maryanne relished in being a mother and her children, Anne Murphy-Miranda, Janice Murphy, John Murphy, and Brian Murphy, remained a constant in her life. Their spouses, Sandy Murphy and Phaedra Murphy, were not just in-laws but integral parts of her extended family.
Maryanne's role as a grandmother to Cameron, Brendan, Kainan and McKenna Miranda, Kara Murphy and Sumer Alvarez was one of her most cherished, as she imparted wisdom and love in equal measure.
Maryanne continued her thirst for knowledge at the University of La Verne, where she pursued a law degree. Her legal career spanned an impressive thirty-five years in San Bernardino County, where she became a respected figure, known for her integrity and tenacity. Maryanne's colleagues and clients admired her ability to balance a demanding career with her family life.
Beyond the courtroom, Maryanne's passions were varied. Her garden was a testament to her patience and creativity, a place of tranquility and beauty that reflected her inner spirit. Traveling provided her with endless joy and a sense of adventure. Entertaining was another of Maryanne's talents; her home was a hub of warmth and laughter, where family and friends were always welcome and where memories were made around her generously laid table.
Maryanne's legacy is not only in the lives she touched as a nurse and lawyer but also in the love and wisdom she shared with her family and the community. She was a woman who lived courageously, never shying away from challenges, and always standing up for what she believed in.
Maryanne's life was a tapestry of achievement, love, and selfless service. Her journey here may have come to a close, but the echoes of her laughter, the fruits of her labor, and the beauty of her gardens will continue to inspire and comfort all who knew her.
Maryanne’s story is one of a life well-lived and her family takes solace in the knowledge that the values she instilled in them will be passed down through. generations, just as the blooms in her garden will continue to flourish under the care of those, she taught so well.
