Mary Elizabeth Williams

Mary Elizabeth Clifton Williams died at 6:00PM, April 9, 2014 at her home in Sherman Oaks, California after a lengthy illness.
She was born to Inez Leona Archer Clifton and John Preston Clifton in Cross Plains, Texas on October 18, 1912. The Cliftons resided about one mile north of Cottonwood, Texas, where John Preston was a farmer. Later the family moved to Runnels County, Texas where Mary graduated from Norton High School in Ballinger, Texas. Her grandfather Clifton served as a Texas Ranger during the Indian Wars of the 1870's.
Mary married Oscar Thadeous ("Chalkie") Williams on July 8, 1932 in New Braunfels, Texas. In the late 1930's, she and Chalkie moved to Hollywood, California. Mary owned and operated "Studio Employees Phone Service," a telephone answering service at 7471 Melrose Avenue, Los Angeles, California. Mary continued this unique service for producers, actors and agents in the motion picture industry until 1987. She was loved by many, who depended on her for communications and personal messages, and had numerous friends in the San Fernando Valley area.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Chalkie; an older sister, Elva Shaul of Winache, Washington; and a younger brother, Charles Clifton of Ballinger, Texas. She had no children. Survivors include nephews: Wade Clifton, David Shaul, Harvell Bains, Gene Harmon, James Williams, David Williams, Dan Williams; and Poindexter nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on April 17, 2014 from 9:00AM to 9:00PM at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills. Services will be held at Church of the Hills, Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills at 3:00PM, April 18, 2014. She will be interred with her husband at the Courts of Remembrance, Forest Lawn.
