Mary Maxine Ranshaw

November 3, 1924 — December 1, 2014

Mary "Maxine" Ranshaw, age 90, passed away peacefully at her Burbank home on December 1, 2014. She was born on November 3, 1924, in Salem, Oregon, as the only child of Herbert and Mabel Kinsman. Several years later the family moved to Glendale. Maxine graduated from Glendale High School and attended Glendale Community College. During WW II, Maxine entered the Cadet Nursing Corps and received her training at the California Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated in 1946, with a BA degree in nursing from USC. During a portion of her nurse's training, Maxine met Sam Ranshaw and, in 1947, upon his discharge from the U.S. Navy, they were married. They moved to Sam's hometown in Alabama for several years before returning to California. They moved to Burbank in 1959. Maxine had a nursing career that spanned 42 years. She worked for many years at Glendale Memorial Hospital before retiring in 1988. Maxine was an avid fan of the USC Trojans. Maxine's faith in Jesus Christ was important in her life, and she taught Sunday School for many years at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Burbank. More recently she was a member of the Sunland Community Church and sang in their choir.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Sam; her sons Michael (Sharon) Ranshaw of Oxnard, James (Patricia) Ranshaw of Burbank; daughter Mary Kate (Jerry) Trammel of Richmond, VA; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A funeral service is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Monday, December 8, at Forest Lawn Glendale.

The reception will immediately follow the service at 415 E. Andover Drive, Burbank, CA.
