IN MEMORY OF MARY LOUISE HUDSPETH (FERRIS)

The family of Mary Louise Hudspeth announces Mary passed from this life and went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 31, 2023. Her passing was at Whittier Hospital Medical Center, California. She was 73 years of age.

Mary, also sometimes known as Mary Lou or Lu Lu to her family, was born December 7, 1949, in Los Angeles to David and Amalia (née Murua) Ferris.

Mary attended California High School and lived in the Whittier area for most of her life.

In her early years she attended beauty school and resided in Hamburger Home in Hollywood. Mary and her friends enjoyed going to Canter's Deli. During this time, she received an award for her talented styling on a model's hair. After beauty school she worked as a hairdresser for many years. She enjoyed her time of employment at Edie Adams Cut & Curl.

In December of 1968, Mary and Patrick William Hudspeth welcomed their first daughter Kathleen Marie Palomares at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital.

In August of 1972, Mary and Kenneth Craig Morris were blessed with a son, Michael Craig Bertram at Pioneer Hospital in Artesia, California.

Mary was wed to Jimmie Lee Bertram, Jr. on June 15, 1975. They were blessed with two sons together: Jimmie Lee Bertram III and Sean Terry Bertram. Jimmie was born on November 6, 1976 at Rio Hondo Memorial Hospital in Downey, California. Sean was born on October 17, 1977 also at Rio Hondo Memorial Hospital. Mary and Jimmie enjoyed meeting friends and participating in events at the Whittier Moose Lodge. Mary was active in organizing special events and was employed there as a bartender for a time. She enjoyed going to Bingo. During this time period Mary and Jimmie lived in various locations throughout Whittier, sometimes renting and sometimes in their own home. They lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, for approximately a year. They divorced in 1987.

Mary became reacquainted with her high school sweetheart Patrick William Hudspeth. They married on June 16, 1987 and honeymooned in Hawaii. Their daughter Korinna Patricia Louise Hudspeth was born to them on July 6, 1990 at Friendly Hills Hospital in La Habra, California. They made many boating trips out to the Colorado River. Also, they started a jukebox, pinball, and arcade games business under the name of M.P.H. Sadly, they became estranged and lived apart until Patrick passed away on July 7, 2012. After Patrick's death Mary went to live in his house until her passing.

In the late 1990's/early 2000's, Mary went back to school and became a Medical Assistant and Phlebotomist. She gained employment working for a local medical practice until the physician decided to retire his practice.

Mary then went on to work at Walmart for several years. She was one of the first hires who assisted in opening the Santa Fe Springs location. She trained to be a cashier and was very enthusiastic about Walmart's efforts to raise funds for The Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. She received recognition from her employer for encouraging the most amount of customer donations. Over time she began to suffer from back pain and eventually decided to retire.

Mary loved to cook for her friends and family. It was always a joy for her to receive a compliment on a dish she had prepared. She was especially proud of her potato salad and enchilada recipes. She enjoyed listening to music and dancing. She made trips out to Las Vegas to visit casinos and also her parents' grave site at Davis Memorial Park. She liked going to the movies or watching a movie at home with her children. She especially liked scary movies and books. She was a very skilled bartender and could whip up delicious margaritas. She loved to look at renovated classic cars. There was a time when she briefly rode a motorcycle. Scrabble (later Words with Friends) was one of her favorite games. Her hobbies sometimes included fishing, camping, painting, cross-stitching, and crocheting. A couple of favorite shows of hers were I Love Lucy and Spongebob Squarepants. Her favorite color was purple; but sometimes she liked gray and plaid patterns. She enjoyed collecting Fenton glass baskets, Betty Boop and Gone with the Wind figurines, and decorative beer steins.

Mary became interested in football and became an avid fan of the San Francisco 49ers. Once, she was able to make a trip to see the 49ers practice with her son Jimmie.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents David J. and Amalia Ferris (Murua); brothers David Ferris, Jr., Lou Ferris, Fred Ferris, Raymond Hernandez; sisters Loretta Hennessey and Roberta Petty; former husband Jimmie Lee Bertram, Jr.; husband Patrick William Hudspeth; her kitty Reba and her doggy Muffin.

Mary is survived by her children Kathleen Marie Palomares (Isidro), Michael Craig Bertram (Girlfriend Stacey), Jimmie Lee Bertram III (Tiffany), Sean Terry Bertram (Fiancée Shannon), and Korinna Patricia Louise Hudspeth (Christian); two step-sons Jimmie Paul Bertram and David Michael Bertram; eleven grandchildren Loretta Tretola, Kiersten Bertram, Zachary Bertram, Hayley Bertram, Jordyn Bertram, Hailey Schiaretti, Brooke Bertram, Isaac Wright, Christopher Bertram, Elias Ramirez, and Xena McClain; two great-grandchildren Ellie Ray Brewster and Aria Brewster; brothers Robert Hernandez, Rudy Ferris, Patrick Ferris; sisters Helen Flores, Virginia Cisneros, Angela Parham, JoAnn MacSelwiney, Lois Meredith, and Helen Townes; as well as many nephews and nieces. She also leaves behind her kitty Molly, her birdy Esmie, almost her doggy Harley Quinn, and almost her birdy Chiquis.

Mary will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary in Cypress, CA on Friday, March 10, 2023.

Mary will be profoundly missed by her family and friends.
