Mary Rose Haddad

November 23, 1926 – April 2, 2016

Mary Rose Haddad, 89, passed away peacefully at Cedars Sinai Hospital on Saturday, April 2, 2016.

Born Mary Rose Attyah in Americus, Georgia, to Lebanese immigrants, Mitchell and Rose Attyah, she attended Georgia Southwestern State University, in Americus, and then graduated with a degree in psychology from Millsaps College, in Jackson, Mississippi.

Her mother, Rose, and brothers, Al and John Attyah, moved west to California in the early 1950's. During one early visit to Los Angeles in 1951, prior to resettling in the Southland, Mary Rose met her future husband, and love of her life, William Haddad, at St. Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral, following regular Sunday services. For the next 65 years, Mary Rose and Bill were inseparable.

Early in her courtship with Bill, she worked as an office manager in her brother's medical practice, but without a doubt, her calling was her family. Mary Rose's life's work was her devotion to Bill, raising their three children, and nurturing her extended family, whether that family was around her in Los Angeles, scattered around the Deep South, or in Lebanon. Mary Rose was always there for everyone, no matter the time of day or the subject at hand. Her love knew no bounds and the love her family and friends had for her was fully reciprocated: Everyone loved Mary Rose Haddad.

There is no adequate expression of how much Mary Rose will be missed. Her sweet nature, her warm and endearing smile, her sincere love and compassion for all who had the pleasure and privilege to know her. It is simply not possible to measure the difference she made in so many lives.

Mary Rose is survived by her loving husband, Bill, her son, Benjamin and his wife, Ann, her son David and his wife, Ana, and her daughter, Rosemarie Hajjar and her husband, Mitri.
