Mary Esparza

April 8, 1931 — June 18, 2025

Mary Esparza, cherished matriarch, peacefully entered eternal rest on June 18, 2025, surrounded by her loving family in Claremont, California. Born to Arella and Frank Duran to a family in Baldwin Park, California, on April 8, 1931, Mary dedicated her life to the warmth of hospitality, always spreading joy and kindness to those in need.

Mary was known for her exceptional culinary skills, whipping up delicious meals that not only filled bellies but also brought people together. Her home was a haven of laughter and love, where family and friends would gather to celebrate life’s simple pleasures. With a fun-loving spirit and an open heart, she touched the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. But don't be mistaken. She had her feisty side that displayed her wittyness and her intense ability to give order or opinions.

A pillar of strength within her family, Mary leaves behind five devoted daughters: Corinne Alarcon, Doreen Salas, Eileen Esparza, Irene Carrasco, and Jolynn Esparza. Her love is carried on by her beloved brother, Carlos Duran, and her caring son-in-laws, Carlos Alarcon, Robert Salas, and Joe Campos. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Paul Marez III, Robert Salas Jr., Lena Salas, Elissa Herrera, Joseph Marez, Norman McBride, Sarah Rodriguez, Michael Jordan, and Demetrius Thomas. Mary was also a proud great-grandmother, leaving behind a new generation to carry her spirit: Ericka Salas, Krystal Cruz, Marc Munoz, Marlina Munoz, Aubrianna Marez, Paul Marez IV, Matthew Marez, Joseph Marez Jr., James Marez, Joshua Marez, Jaikob Salas, and Kayson Thomas.

Mary's generosity knew no bounds; she was always eager to lend a hand and provide support to those experiencing hardship. Her unwavering commitment to helping others is what she loved to do. She was a joy spreader who always made sure everyone had their daily dose of laughter. Mary loved listening to music, cooking, watching sports, creating bonds of friendship and fellowship that will be treasured for generations to come. She was a strong believer in God and in her Catholic faith.

Mary is now reunited with her late spouse, Joe Esparza, who was her constant companion and partner in life. Together, they created a loving family environment, filled with unconditional love.

Her warmth, humor, and loving spirit will be celebrated at St. Denis Catholic Church in Diamond Bar on July 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM, followed by the buriel at Forest Lawn in Covina.

As we reflect on the memories shared with Mary, we take comfort in knowing that her legacy of love, generosity, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She truly embodied the spirit of family, and her life serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of connection and compassion in our world.
