Mary Esther Carrejo, a resident of Buena Park, California passed away at home on Wednesday, March 2nd, 2022. Mary was born to Manuel De Atocha Perea and Maria Barela Perea on November 30th, 1932 in Belen, New Mexico. Miss Perea was active in high school as a drum majorette and a Girl Scouts leader. She graduated from Belen High School and then worked as a Practical Nurse for William D. Radcliffe, M.D. She married Ambrosio (Amby) Carrejo on June 26th, 1954, and together they raised 5 children (four girls and one boy). Mary epitomized motherhood and gave her all to raising her five successful children. Her passion was taking care of her extended family and cooking amazing dinners to celebrate special occasions. She served as president on clubs associated with the Union Pacific Railroad. She had a wonderfully strong Catholic faith and was active in her church as a Eucharistic Minister and Wedding Coordinator. Her pastimes included traveling to such places as Spain, Ireland, and Alaska with her husband.


She is preceded in death by her parents, Manuel De Atocha Perea and Maria Barela Perea; sisters, Mable Storey, Rosalyn Gonzalez, Jesusita Perea, and Rosalita Perea; brothers, Donicio Perea, Dennis Perea, and Ernest Perea; loving husband, Ambrosio A. Carrejo.


Mary is survived by her sister Margaret Baca; brother Manuel Perea, daughters Rowena (Gary) Bernstein, Sandi Hittner, Katrina (Daniel) Miller and Mareena (Eddie) Espinosa; her son, Ambrose (Christine) Carrejo; her six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.


Services will be held at St. Pius V Church in Buena Park, California on March 18th at 10:00 AM. A reception will follow at El Torito restaurant on 5995 Katella Avenue in Cypress, CA.
