Mary Brunner

November 30, 1915 — February 21, 2023

Mary  Ella  Stout  Brunner

Mary Ella Stout Brunner was born November 30, 1915 In Bakersfield, CA to Eldridge Kinsel and Daisy (Daugherty) Stout. Her beloved brother Eldridge Kinsel Stout Jr (Tiny) was born exactly 13 months later in Los Angeles and in 1924 the family moved to Santa Monica, CA.

Mary graduated from UCLA in 1937 a year following future husband Robert Thomas Brunner Jr. Mary and Robert (Bob) were married May 27, 1939. They began married life in Rialto, CA but soon moved to Burbank and were life-long residents. They had two children Robert Lawrence (Larry) Brunner and Kathryn (Kathy) Ann Brunner Adair. Mary passed away peacefully February 21, 2023, in her home of 71 years.

Mary, and Robert, remained avid UCLA fans and supporters all their lives. Mary was an incredible athlete, She lettered in 5 sports in high school, loved playing tennis and GOLF! She loved watching sports as well, none more than UCLA and the DODGERS!

After graduating from UCLA Mary attended secretarial school. It was war time and she worked as a secretary before her work as a physical education teacher. Mary, and Robert, were active and dedicated members of the Burbank community supporting many local charities and groups. She remained supportive of the Burbank YMCA, La Providenicia Guild and P.E.O. throughtout her life. She was passionate about her work with the La Providencia Guild especially and her involvement in P.E.O. For a number of years she would gather the lost and found from all the schools at the end of the year. Then wash and repair the clothing to take to the Thrift shop where she, also, spent many hours working. Through her groups and among friends Mary enjoyed many activities. Memories seem to be about her bridge playing in particular!!!

Mary, “Was a remarkable woman”, in the words of a dear friend, “I have been constantly impressed by her resilience, strength, and unwavering positive outlook on life!” Above all she was a decicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother! Her family was her greatest pride and joy.

We, her family, are grateful  for your being a part of Mary’s life.

Thank you for being her friend, for supporting her, for caring for her and for loving her!
