Celebrating the Life of Martin David Martinez.
A free spirited man who lived his life one day at a time. Never in a hurry, but always focused in following his daily routine to the tee. A man who was 5'7", but stood 10 feet tall in any situation. Could carry 5 cents in his pocket, but would be the richest in heart and mind. He was a man of simple needs and expectations, never demanding. A man who lived his life under the belief that what you give is what you get. Self-taught man in many trades, always curious & eager to learn and grow in knowledge. An intelligent man that could read a book in one day, mostly intrigued by learning and discussing topics of military and education. He could walk for hours and never get tired of seeing the world. Never judgmental or disrespectful to anyone, but observant enough to know when to walk away. He always saw the good in everyone and would never hesitate to offer a helping hand or be there for someone whom needed his words of wisdom or a shoulder to cry on. Our father was a kid at heart, very humble, silly, sweet, kind soul who honored his family and brought us endless memories to cherish and remember him for always.
MARTIN'S LIFE STORY
Martin's journey began on October 7th, 1943 in Los Angeles, California.
At a young age, he began working in the garment industry as a presser for a sports clothing company. Never satisfied, his curiosity to learn peeked his interest in the boiler room. He read books, asked questions, and observed; self-teaching himself and became a self-skilled apprentice to the boiler operator. Shortly after, impressed by his skill and focus, he was promoted to the main Boiler Operator of the company. He remained in this industry for over 40 years, loyal and dedicated to all those who he worked with.
He met the love of his life, Beatriz, and was married on December 18, 1970. They began their family 3 years later and had 2 children, Phillip and Kathy.
In 1996 he became a proud grandfather to Joseph and in 1998 gained a beautiful granddaughter, Destiny.
Later, after retirement, at the age of 70 he decided it was never too late to go back to school. Accomplishing one of his life-long dreams, he earned his diploma in Business Office Administration, graduating at the age of 72.
He loved learning to play golf, and watching the Dodgers take a win. Loved sneaking in a nap during the day, and had a passion to read and write, playing with numbers and puzzles, especially Tetris on the Xbox. Enjoyed watching military movies or anything on the History or Discovery channel. Being amused by the simplest things in life, he would carry his camera around to capture moments that later would show what was important to him and what made him happy. Moments of family, friends, emotions, and pure nature⦠things like a photo of a simple RV engine, or anything that captivated his attention. Conversation was his main attribute, he could go for hours talking and educating on what he had learned or recently discovered that would amaze him. Passionate about his cup of coffee while he stood outside and gathered his thoughts as days would start and come to an end. An avid walker that could go for miles and lose himself in his travels. Never said no to a good plate of food or yummy dessert, definitely a foodie.
He was treasured by many because of his kindness and conversation that would bring people in to want to hear more. His smile was contagious and always felt warming bringing comfort and easiness to all those who knew him. He touched many because he was a man of his word and could always put his needs to one side, and offer an ear or a shoulder to cry on for those that needed him. A spiritual righteous man that demonstrated passion, loyalty, and pure dedication to all he did in life and to all that were part of his life.
Our dearest and loving daddy went to be with Our Lord on January 29, 2017.
