Martha Sloan Robertson

January 8, 1936 — November 10, 2020

Martha Sloan Robertson, 84, born on January 8, 1936, in Taft, CA, passed away November 10, 2020. She resided in Long Beach, CA at the time of her passing. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Long Beach, California.

Martha is survived by her loving sons, grandson, granddaughters, and great grandchildren. Joseph A Verhauz of New York, NY (Kathleen Cullen, Lexi Cullen-Baker, Kaitlin Cullen-Verhauz, Aidan, Chloé and Finley Cassilly), Thomas B Verhauz of San Francisco CA (Susan Agricola-Verhauz), Andrew R Verhauz of Glendale CA (Olga Katalaris-Verhauz, Peter Katalaris, Ariana Verhauz, Christina Verhauz).

Martha is also survived by her loving sister, nieces, nephew and grand nephew Joel, who was like a son to her. Anne Stone of Long Beach CA, Glenn Clark of Long Beach CA, Kathleen Clark of Long Beach CA , Virginia Sacco, Tom Sacco, Jason Sacco and Joel Sacco of Long Beach CA

Martha was not only a dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother, she also had a long career as an executive assistant who finished out her career after 25 years at Long Beach Memorial Hospital. Martha was particularly remarkable because she was diagnosed with MS in her late 40's and she never gave up on herself or living her life to the fullest. It was a testament to her spirit of resilience and perseverance.

Martha loved music and the arts. She was an avid book reader, adored opera, classical music and the movies. We often thought that Martha and her sister Anne should have their own show, ala Siskel and Ebert, critiquing films.

The sisters, Anne and Martha lived together in Long Beach for 30+ years and when Joel was a toddler and learning to speak names he made a variation of the name Martha, calling her Maha. The nickname stuck.

Maha loved traveling to visit her sons and their families. It brought Maha great joy to see her grandchildren perform in various theatre shows and musical concerts and recitals.

Martha had a great sense of humor and quick wit. She was always a generous, kind and loving person. Martha will always be remembered and will be greatly missed. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the National MS Society in Martha's name.
