June Leto, a loving mother, devoted wife, and cherished friend to many, passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on December 18, 2024. Born in Kentucky, lost her mother very young and spent her teenage years in Michigan with her sister when her dad passed away. June graduated high school in 1945, then embarked on a cross-country adventure to California on a packed troop train amidst soldiers returning from World War II to live with another sister and brother in law based in Los Angeles. Her early days in Los Angeles were marked by modest beginnings—working at a dime store and began her studies at UCLA, where she met her future husband, Frank, in a book line. Their love story spanned over five decades, rooted in mutual respect, humor, and devotion.
June’s life reflected her deep sense of community, service and member and Deacon of the Panorama Presbyterian Church. A humanitarian at heart, she opened her home to all, warmly hosting gatherings that made everyone feel welcome. Her volunteer work touched countless lives, from driving for the blind to supporting individuals with disabilities. June and Frank welcomed a university student from Thailand to stay in their home for a year or so. A lifelong learner, she returned to college later in life, earning a degree in Political Science with dreams of becoming a city planner. Though she ultimately chose to dedicate herself to family and volunteer work, June’s curiosity and tenacity never wavered. Her humor, warmth, and generosity of spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her. June leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a reminder that a life lived for others is a life well-lived.
