Martha Jean Isaac Harmon was born in 1937 to William Isaac and Mildred Franklin in Toledo, Ohio. When she was 6 years old, her family moved to San Bernardino, where she grew up. She went to nursing school at Loma Linda University where she met the love of her life, Billie Harmon.
For fun, mom took courses in interior design and even considered a career in it because she was great at colors and putting rooms together. Then she got to the perspective course where she discovered she couldn’t draw. She decided to go back to something she knew and took a refresher course in nursing. Mom went on to work as a home health nurse at a large agency and became the nursing director. She then went to work at Kaiser Sunset, and eventually became their Director of Home Patient Services where she was responsible for Home Health, Hospice, and medical equipment in the home.
Over time, mom earned a MSN, MBA, and Ph.D. in nursing from UCLA. She taught courses at CSUN in their BRN Program, including Population and Community Health Nursing Theory, and clinical courses. She loved imparting her knowledge to her students.
Mom loved music, especially classical music and was a longtime LA Philharmonic subscriber. She also loved spending time at museums.
After our father’s death in 2020, mom spent her last years happily at Ivy Park Simi Valley. She loved the staff, crafting activities, music programs, and tours around town. She was, in turn, loved by the Ivy Park team who took very good care of her until her passing on February 13th, 2026.
Mom is survived by her sister Janice, her three daughters, Joanna, Janelle, and Jeannine; their husbands, Mark and Duane Sr. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, Morgan, Michael, Jordan G, Duane Jr, and Jordan D. Also left behind are three great grandchildren, Nehemiah, Shiloh, and baby on the way; nieces, nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.
Mom, you will forever be loved and missed by your entire family and those who knew you.
