Martha Rodriguez

Martha Rodriguez, 89, born on October 13, 1933, in El Paso, TX, United States, passed away April 23, 2023. She resided in Los Angeles, CA at the time of her passing. Arrangements are under the care of Forest Lawn, Covina Hills, CA.

A loving mother to six children, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to those who knew her.  My mother was a strong woman, who endured much, but did not complain. She faced life with strength, compassion and resolve.  She was "selfless" always put others before her needs.

Three things gave her much joy, her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her great-great grandchild, being with family and going to the casino. A lady who was brave in the face of much adversity, and fiercely protected her children.

At the age of 37, she found herself widowed with 6 children to feed. She worked in a factory where she earned a modest salary. This caused her to move into a housing project in Boyle Heights where life presented many challenges. Two years later she moved her family back to El Sereno.

Mom belonged to two senior citizen centers where she had many friends. She traveled by bus with them to various casinos. She volunteered at the center and helped out where she was needed.

She worked as a poll worker during the political elections.

Mom was kind, compassionate, loving and courageous. As death was nearing she faced it with acceptance of God's will, Earlier she expressed how she wanted to go home to her house.  On April 23, 2023, she was transported by ambulance back to her home where she died peacefully, that evening in the company of her daughters Elsie and Gloria. Rest in Peace Mama, Say hello to Rosie and Ricky for us, we shall always love you.
