Marte San Diego

October 17, 1936 — March 27, 2025

Born in Tarlac, Philippines, Marte Bondoc San Diego lived a life marked by perseverance, hard work, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends. The son of Mamerto and Patricia San Diego, he learned responsibility at an early age, working alongside his mother selling vegetables at the local market to help support their family.

Determined to build a better future, Marte worked his way through college, earning a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. His dedication and expertise led him to become a dredge master, overseeing a team of engineers responsible for maintaining navigable channels, preventing erosion, and ensuring safe passage for vessels.

While stationed in Davao City, Philippines, he met and married Fe Asuncion, an elementary school teacher who became his lifelong partner. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and perseverance, eventually settling in Quezon City, where they welcomed their son, Gerardo.

In 1974, Marte, Fe, and their young son embarked on a new chapter, immigrating to the United States and establishing their home in Southern California. Through hard work and determination, Marte built a stable foundation for his family, ensuring they had every opportunity to thrive in their new country.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Marte was deeply connected to his loved ones. He shared a close bond with his uncle Rubelio San Diego, his wife Flordeliza, and their children, as well as his cousin Marlie Miranda, her husband Wilfrido, and their children. His friendships extended to Roman and Cora Biagtan and their children.

Marte was honored to be the godfather of Adoracion, daughter of his brother-in-law, Primitivo Asuncion, and his wife, Lydia. Alongside his wife Fe, Marte helped provide additional guidance to Adoracion and her sisters Cecilia and Hossannah.

Marte's legacy is one of resilience, integrity, and generosity. His unwavering commitment to family and friends, his remarkable journey from humble beginnings to accomplished engineer, and his devotion to creating a better life for those he loved will forever be cherished.
