Maroun Tabet

July 16, 1947 — September 30, 2022

Maroun Antoun Tabet, age 75, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Friday, September 30, 2022. He was the loving husband of Aida Tabet, the proud father of Anthony Tabet and a longtime resident of Los Angeles, CA.

Maroun was born on July 16, 1947 in Deir El Qamar, Lebanon, a son to the late Antoun and Marie Tabet. He graduated from Youngstown State University in Ohio where he received his BS in Computer Science.

Maroun was a limousine driver for most of his life while living in Los Angeles. He moved to the US in 1971 where he first lived in El Paso, Texas then moved to study in Youngstown, Ohio. Later he then moved to Dallas, Texas. During these times he worked multiple jobs including a bar tender and working for the city as a jail bookkeeper all while studying. When he moved to Los Angeles, sometime in the mid-1980s, he opened a French inspired cuisine restaurant in the Pacific Palisades called The Captain, where he enjoyed serving some of LA's top celebrities at the time.

As an adventurous man, Maroun loved to explore the streets of Los Angeles. Working through the night as a chauffeur he enjoyed driving his guests to the prime spots of Los Angeles while finding new gem locations that he would later share with his wife and son. He truly loved being on the move and even trying out some of LA's best cuisines in between stops.

His true joy was his family. Esteemed as a remarkable father, Maroun, always did everything in his power to provide for his son, Anthony, with the means to be successful and happy. As a spontaneous husband, he made sure that his wife, Aida, was always on the edge of her seat with excitement. It was his charm that swept her off her feet, as he was known for his strong personality filled with humor and joy. This was the secret to their 36 years of marriage.

He loved the martial arts. He had a fascination with Jiu-Jitsu, Karate, and Kung Fu. He used to study and practice Judo while growing up in Lebanon. For fun, he and his son loved sparring while enjoying some of their favorite films starring Jackie Chan, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and Steven Seagal.

In addition to his wife and son, Maroun is survived by his granddaughter Ariah Jade Tabet; his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Tabet; his brothers Mounir and Mouhib Tabet; his sister Mirieille Naanouh; as well as many other family members in California, Ohio, New Hampshire, Texas and Lebanon.

Maroun Tabet was a man with an incredibly soft heart who always reminded us not to take life too seriously. His laughter and charisma will always be shared and remembered forever. He will be sincerely missed by his family and friends.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend his vigil on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 from 5:00 to 6:00 PM at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive in Los Angeles. A rosary will be prayed at that time. His funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Lebanon, 333 South San Vicente Blvd in Los Angeles. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills.
