Known to most of us simply as Marge, was lot of things, as I would come to find out during our years as friends. She was an amazingly strong independent and talented woman. She was kind, loving, nurturing and giving to all of those she cared about.
Marge was born in Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Ross Holland and Mamie Payton Winfrey, the sister of Richard Holland and a mother to her son Richie. Most of whom are with her now. She is only survived by her two nieces, Nancy Swanson of Colorado and Julie Theme of Arizona and their families.
Marge moved out to California when she was only 20 to pursue her musical dreams. Her musical career began with 10 years of classical piano training. Marge loved music and dancing. She arrived in California and her musical career took off as she became increasingly popular with her rendition of blues songs and popular melodies from the 30s, 40's and 50's. She played in, what were then called, super clubs. Many Newspaper clippings tell the story of her long and successful musical career. Marge was active in the Society of Singers and did charity work for them. She didn't stop at music, her talents extended to the healing arts as well, as a massage therapist and if that wasn't enough she would cater, organize and play music at private parties. She would teach many students piano and Water skiing. I had to chuckle when I read one of her Christmas letters to her friends and realized that she was juggling all of these careers at one time. Later during her years in California, Marge realized she had a SAG card and decided to "dabble" (as she put it) in Show Business, and that she did. She had several bit parts in a few Major Films such as Brother Where Art Thou and little Nicky. If you look hard enough at some Law and Order reruns you may just see her in the background as she also appeared as background talent in many TV shows.
AS if all of this didn't keep her busy enough she loved to play tennis with her friends and line dance, "in her spare time".
She was quite the multi-tasker and that is one of the many things that bound us. We shared a love for music and show biz, but most of all, we shared our love for the healing arts and caring for others . I would grow to find out how much we really had in common over the years. Yes Marge was a lot things in her life,
but most of all Marge was my friend. We loved each other and I will miss her terribly.
