Marion J. Volk

October 8, 1941 — February 1, 2022

Marion Volk age 80, passed away peacefully February 1, 2022. She was born October 8, 1941, to Floyd Erwin Alger and Rachel Clare Alger. She was the youngest of three children and raised in Bismarck North Dakota. She graduated from Bismarck High School in 1959 and St.Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. In 1964 she married Ed Volk at Saint Anne's Catholic Church in Bismarck, North Dakota. After their wedding they found sunshine and began their new life together in Sherman Oaks, California.

She started her nursing career in a pediatrician's office. After her first daughter Nancy was born in 1966, she worked part time at Sherman Oaks Community Hospital. Her second daughter Barbara was born in 1970 and in 1972 they moved to La Canada, CA to settle and raise their children. She continued to work as a critical care nurse at Verdugo Hills Hospital in Glendale. Always wanting to learn, she went back to school and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Redlands in 1978 and her Master of Science in Nursing Education in 1994. After graduating in 1994 she transitioned to the Education Department at Verdugo Hills Hospital.

In 1997 after her children were grown, they moved to the "most beautiful place on earth", Lake Arrowhead, CA to retire. In retirement she found her love for singing and joined the Sweet Adelines Chorus in Lancaster, CA. We always thought she was crazy to drive so far but she loved the ladies and being a part of a great organization. She always looked forward to the performances, costumes and traveling with the group.
In 2005 they moved to the sand and shore in Huntington Beach, CA to be closer to their grandchild and family. She enjoyed drives up and down the coast to watch surfers and dogs enjoying the waves. She loved to feed the birds in Long Beach harbor and made friends with a special bird with one foot. She named him "Lefty".

Marion will be sorely missed and remembered as a friend by all who had the honor of knowing her. She wanted everyone to know that she is now a proud member of the huge chorus in the sky.

She is survived by her husband Ed Volk, her daughters Nancy Littleton, and Barbara Gal (Tom Taylor), son in law Dave Littleton and granddaughter Lindsay Littleton. She also leaves behind many special extended family members, untold friends, and colleagues.

Marion is preceded in death her parents Floyd and Clare Alger, two brothers Richard Alger, David Alger, and son in law Michael Gal.
A celebration of life gathering will be announced at a later date.
