Marion Jane Kaus was born on September 5, 1921 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin and passed away on March 13, 2020 in Palm Desert, California at the age of 98. She was the daughter of George and Edna Kaus and had three older brothers, Ronald, George and Norman. After graduating from Logan High School in LaCrosse in 1940, Marion moved to Los Angeles to live with an aunt and uncle, Bernice and George Buhler. In 1944, she enrolled in nurses' training at Los Angeles County General Hospital and received her R.N. diploma in 1947. Thereafter she was employed as a nurse at LA County General Hospital for ten years and, enrolling in night school classes at California State College at Los Angeles, received a B.S. in Nursing in 1955. Continuing her studies at LA State, she received a master's degree in health education in 1958. During the following years, Marion worked as a school nurse and in nursing education until 1967 when she joined the nursing faculty at Santa Rosa Junior College where she taught pediatric nursing to R.N. students until her retirement in 1983. During the many years following her retirement from teaching, Marion has been a consultant to and board member of the Institute for Natural Resources (INR), a non-profit company providing continuing-education programs for health-care professionals.
Marion's interests included sports, music and theatre. She was a natural athlete and excelled in many sports including tennis and golf. During the last two decades of her life, she excelled in spectator sports while spending her leisure time in front of her television set viewing the ball game of the hour. As a high school student, Marion played the guitar and sang and yodeled on a local radio program. In her adult life, she was a member of a number of church choirs and, with very little encouragement, was always ready to do a little singing and yodeling. During her middle years, Marion appeared on community theatre stages in various roles. Until the last couple years of her life, she took great delight in dramatically reciting poems she had memorized--especially some very lengthy ones that tested her memory and the patience of her audience.
Marion was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church of Palm Desert and a resident of The Fountains at the Carlotta.
