Marilyn Glassman

March 18, 1934 — January 10, 2024

On January 10, 2024, Marilyn Glassman (Wolfson), beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in Palm Desert, California.  She was 89 years old.

Marilyn was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 18, 1934.  Soon after, she moved to and lived for many years in Chicago/Glenview, Illinois.   She then moved to Rancho Mirage, California in 1984 and lived in the Coachella Valley ever since.

Early in her career, Marilyn was an Elementary School Teacher before deciding to become a devoted full-time mother.  After moving to California to be with her family, Marilyn became heavily involved in community service to the City of Rancho Mirage.  She served as a member of the City’s Planning Commission, as a Councilwoman, and as Mayor.  In addition, she was a member of the Board of Directors of Friends of the Desert Mountains, a member of the Board of Directors of S.C.R.A.P. Gallery, a member of the Planning Commission for the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians, a co-founder of Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert, and was an active volunteer in many other local charities and organizations.

Marilyn treasured her family more than anything in life, which included her cats and exotic birds, and also cherished the many friendships she made over the years.  Her caring heart, welcoming personality, and her beautiful smile will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Marilyn is preceded in death by her father Michael, mother Miriam, stepmother Gail, and brother Jimmy.   She is survived by her husband of 68 years Ken, her sons Marc and Joel, her daughter Kim, and her grandchildren Kendall, Jonah, Noah, Jordan, and Julia.

A private memorial service will be held for the family.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Friends of the Desert Mountains in her honor.
