Marilyn Baum

June 2, 1939 — May 29, 2023

Marilyn Audrey Baum, of Palm Desert, formerly of Los Angeles, passed away on May 29, 2023. Although she was 4 days short of her 84th birthday, she was always a teenager at heart. Born and raised in Chicago, her family moved to California in 1955 where she attended L.A. High School and then earned a Master’s degree in education from UCLA. If there was leader of the social butterflies, Marilyn was the one. From volunteering at places like her Temple, the McCallum Theater and Gilda’s Club, to chaperoning trips from her boys’ school, Marilyn was always beaming with joy and bursting with laughter. She couldn’t wait to go square dancing with friends, work out and have coffee and gossip with the Trim-N-Tone gals, or go on her next worldly adventure. Her greatest joys were her wonderful family and her extraordinary friends including the “gang of eight”. She was wise, clever and always kind. She taught many life lessons in and out of the classroom. She lead through her actions, and was a friend to everyone. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sybil and Jerome Karlsberg. She is survived by her husband Bruce, children Joel Mandel (Peggy), Ron Mandel (Lisa), Stepson Fred Baum, and first husband, Ira Mandel. She is also survived by her grandchildren who she cherished and adored beyond expression, Sasha, Robyn, Brianna, Aleeza, Margo, Wesley (Natalia) Brooke (Bryan) and Jake. Great-grandchildren, Neveah, Malkah, Charlie, Colton and Jasper. Funeral services and interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Cathedral City, California on Thursday, June 1st at 1:00 PST.
