Marie Hannah Venable, born on January 15, 1924, in San Jose, California, left this world peacefully on June 25, 2025, in her home in Buena Park, surrounded by the love of her family. Her journey through life was one marked by resilience, deep connections, and an unwavering dedication to her family.
From humble beginnings, Marie began her work career right out of high school as a riveter for Lockheed during the early build-up to World War II. She exemplified the spirit of her time, contributing to the war effort and supporting herself far from her family. It was in Los Angeles that she met the love of her life and soon to be husband. After her time at Lockheed, she worked many years for RCA Records and then dedicated several years to the Burry Biscuit Corporation. However, it was at Santa Anita Racetrack where she spent her final forty years, diligently serving in the hospitality department. Throughout her various roles, Marie’s work ethic and commitment shone brightly, leaving a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.
In her personal life, Marie was renowned for her memory—a remarkable gift that allowed her to recall birthdays, anniversaries, and significant events from the past with astonishing accuracy. She cherished sharing stories from days gone by, delighting friends and family with anecdotes that connected generations. Her love for storytelling was matched only by her enthusiasm for hearing about the lives of her children and grandchildren, eagerly asking for updates during every visit.
Marie graduated high school in Tres Pinos, California, and her lifelong thirst for reading was evident in her love of Danielle Steele books that were always close at hand. When not reading, she dedicated hours to playing cards, often turning a friendly game into a spirited competition, which she most often won.
Marie’s personality radiated kindness and warmth. She was passionate in leading her family, celebrating each addition with joy and pride. She had an infectious spirit that drew people to her, earning her reverence and love from all who had the pleasure of meeting her. Her favorites in television, included classics like "The Andy Griffith Show," "Bonanza," "Gunsmoke," and "The Rifleman," alongside modern favorites like "Shark Tank" and Hallmark movies. These shows filled her days with entertainment that she happily shared with family and friends.
A deeply spiritual woman, Marie remained dedicated to her faith, actively attending St. Pius V Church until her health no longer permitted. Her devotion transitioned to enjoying mass on television, a testament to her unwavering faith and connection to her church community.
Marie is survived by her beloved children: son Dave and daughter Vikki; son Bob and daughter-in-law Paula; daughter Rose and son in law Chris. She was a proud grandmother to Jake, Mick, Samantha, Chelsea, and Collin, and celebrated becoming a great-grandmother to Emma. Each of her grandchildren cherished the special bond they shared with their grandmother, whose love and support were steadfast throughout their lives.
Marie is reunited with her husband Ray, having passed just a day before their wedding anniversary, symbolizing a love that remains eternal.
As we remember Marie Hannah Venable, we celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family, who will carry her stories and spirit with them always.
