Maria Teresa Toapanta

Maria Teresa Toapanta, 81, born on November 6, 1931, passed away on February 5, 2013. She resided in Downey, California at the time of her passing. Maria Teresa, affectionately known as "abuela", was born in Mulalo, Ecuador. In 1956, she married Luis Alberto Toapanta, with whom she had four children. In 1962, she immigrated to Newark, New Jersey. She and her family moved to Los Angeles, CA where she resided until the year 2000. She lost her husband of 36 yrs in 1992. She married her second husband Carlos Castillo in the year 2000. She is survived by four children - Patricia, Luis, Nelson, Marco; eight grandchildren - Christina, Raquel, Michelle, Kathleen, Patrick, Luis, Jesse and Crystal; and by three brothers and four sisters . She was a devout Catholic, a lover of children, a respected seamstress, and always gave to those who were less fortunate than herself.
