Maria Nylda Sun-Mendoza, often known as "Nylda", was born on June 04, 1951, and passed away on February 28, 2023. She was born in Legaspi, Philippines, to Jack and Rita Sun. As eldest daughter of eleven siblings, she was a mother-figure to all. Richard, her only child, is married to Rhoda, and they share three children, Nylda's grandchildren, Roman, Rory, and Royce. She is also aunt to 12 nephews and 10 nieces, great aunt to 4 nephews and 3 nieces, and great great aunt to 1 nephew and niece. Nylda also loved her fur babies, Missy and Kyle. Both have passed away, and anxiously await for her to join them.
Nylda worked hard her entire life, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology from California State University, Long Beach. She worked multiple jobs most of her career to better herself and her only son. Eventually obtaining licensure as a Clinical Lab Scientist. She finished her illustrious career at Kaiser Bellflower with 28 years of service.
Nylda married the love of her life, Bill Mendoza, in 2006. They lived happily in Cerritos, in the Sun family home. Holidays filled her home with laughter, love, and luscious food. Grandchildren often played and dined in the home, and family often visited. Nylda also loved to travel. She took trips to various places around the country, trips to Europe and the Holy Land, and of course to the Philippines. Nylda and Bill eventually retired and moved to the retirement community of Laguna Woods. There they enjoyed golf and traveling to the local casinos. In conjunction with her love for casinos and fine dining, they moved to North Las Vegas. There she adopted her current fur baby, Pogi, who misses her immensely. North Las Vegas is where she resided at the time of her passing.
Nylda passed away on February 28, 2023, in Downey, California, surrounded by her loving family. She lived seventy-one wonderful years. Her battle was over, and she could finally rest. She is and always will be deeply missed. Nylda's viewing is Monday, March 27, 9am to 4pm. Her funeral is the following day, Tuesday, March 28, 10am, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Artesia, California, with burial immediately following at Forest Lawn in Cypress, California.
