Maria Rosario Portillo

Maria Rosario Portillo, 95, of Indio, Calif. passed away March 8, 2017 in Indio, Calif. She was born July 18, 1921, to Lauro Gaxiola and Refugio Tolano in Nacozari, Sonora, Mexico. She married Antonio Portillo on May 5, 1946 in Nacozari, Sonora, Mexico. She was a housewife. She was a member of The Guadalupanas. She is survived by her daughters, Francisca Ramona (Jesse) Sanchez of Indio, Calif. and Mercedes P. (Mario) Lopez of Thermal, Calif.; sister, Maria Socorro Gaxiola of Coachella, Calif.; 8 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Antonio Portillo; and son, Jesus Antonio Portillo. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm on March 16, 2017 with a Rosary at 6:00 pm at Forest Lawn Indio. The Funeral Mass will be at 12:00 noon on March 17, 2017 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Indio, interment to follow at Coachella Valley Public Cemetery in Coachella. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn Indio.
