Maria Carlos, affectionately known as Ama & Chata, leaves behind a legacy of love and nourishment that will be cherished by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Born on March 21, 1947, in Mexico, she wove warmth and culinary magic into the lives of many.
For twenty years, Ama poured her heart into her work at St. Pius V, where her passion for cooking was evident in every dish she prepared. Her role was more than just a job; it was an extension of her nurturing spirit, always ensuring that everyone around her was well-fed and cared for.
Outside of work, Amas vibrant personality shone through. Despite her constant knee pain, she would light up whenever music played or when it was time for one of her cherished shopping trips to Ross, Marshalls, Sams, Costco and of course garage sales!
To those who knew her well, Ama was a woman of many facets. To her children—Norma, Sal, Yolanda, George, and Rene—she was everything they needed her to be. She could be serious when required, offer comfort in times of sorrow, engage in endless conversations, share light-hearted moments filled with jokes (and the occasional "French" banter), and recount fascinating stories from her past.
Maria's greatest pride was her family. She loved her grandchildren as if they were her own, showering them with the same unwavering love and care that defined her role as a mother. Her family was her joy, the very heartbeat of her life.
On August 1, 2024, Ama passed away peacefully as her children surrounded her bed in her house, leaving behind a treasure trove of beautiful memories and hearts full of love. Though we mourn her physical absence, we find comfort in the wonderful moments we shared with her.
Ama is now reunited with loved ones who preceded her in death—Abuelita Josefina, Tia Angelita, Lupe Negrete, Matilde Calderon, and Maria Arrizon to name a few. In celebrating her life and honoring her memory, a Visitation will be held on August 27th at Forest Lawn - Cypress - Patriots Chapel, followed by a Funeral Service on August 28th at St. Pius V Catholic Church in Buena Park.
Ama is survived by her devoted children Norma, Sal & Sally, Yolanda, George & Cindy (Sandy), and Rene & Rosana, along with her cherished grandchildren, including Normita, Richard, Krystal, Yolie, Tito, David, Nancy, Ina, Nene, Kaylah, Saya and Steven. Her great grandchildren, Ariana, Becca, Lilly, Avery, Carlos, Cassie, Jackie & Carter. One great-great grandchild on the way.
We take comfort in knowing that right as Ama took her last breath she opened her eyes to see her children surrounding her bedside then seen our Lord & Savior welcoming her home.
Ama’s spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched with her kindness and love. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing she will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
