Marguerite Lyon was born on March 26, 1930, in Santa Monica, California, to Mary Farias and Edward T. Rogers. She grew up in the Culver City area, attending St. Augustine Catholic School and Hamilton High School. Marguerite started her college education at Santa Monica City College and received her degree and teaching credentials from UCLA. In 1953 she married Robert G. Lyon at the San Gabriel Mission. They lived in Hollywood for several years, and then moved to the new neighborhood of Rossmoor in Orange County, California, where they lived for over 60 years. Marguerite taught elementary school for years in the Los Alamitos School District, and ended her career as a program specialist for the Greater Anaheim Special Education Consortium. After retirement, Marguerite spent decades serving her community as a volunteer for many organizations. She was a docent for the South Coast Repertory, the Long Beach Art Museum and Rancho Los Cerritos. She was a dedicated member of the Assistance League of Long Beach, and was honored with their Unsung Heroes award. Marguerite was also one of the early members of the Literary Guild of Orange County and a key part of their annual Book Festival. She treasured her involvement with the Fine Arts Affiliates of CSULB, which provides scholarships for fine arts students, and was a past president. She was also a past president of the League of Women Voters of North Orange County. Marguerite passed away on July 20, 2025 in Los Alamitos, California at 95 years old after a full and rewarding life. She was predeceased by her sister Carolyn in 1982 and her husband Robert in 2016. Marguerite is survived by her children Gayle Meldau and Michael Lyon, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her final resting place will be El Toro Memorial Park in Lake Forest, California.
