Margie F. Tillman, of Palm Desert, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 21, 2018, after a brief illness. She was 96 years old.
Margie was born January 22, 1922, in Minden, NE, to Ben and Maggie (Hermansen) Johnson. She graduated from Minden HS in 1939. In 1940 she moved to California to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Frank Mainey. On September 21, 1940, she married Dwayne Tillman. They raised five children in the San Fernando Valley and in 1988, upon retirement, they moved to Palm Desert.
Margie was always full of fun and had boundless energy. She was active in many groups at Palm Desert Greens Country Club. Her favorite was line dancing, which she organized and was the driving force of for many years. She enjoyed bocce, shuffleboard, putting club, pinochle, poker, bunko, Red Hats, New Dimensions and the PDG Singles.
She was extremely proud of her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She tirelessly made beautiful doll clothes for all her little girls.
Margie was preceded in death by her husband, Dwayne, August 27, 1997, and her grandson, Logan Seufert, April 19, 2009, and six siblings; Genevieve, Archie, Helen, Eugene, Marlin, and Mervin.
She is survived by her brother, Verne (Barbara) Johnson, Santa Barbara, CA, sisters-in-law Mary Johnson, Palm Desert, CA, and Lee Johnson, La Canada, CA, five children; Steve (Donna) Tillman, Fountain Valley, CA, Peggy (Don) Yarbrough, Fort Smith, MT, Janis (Bill) Seufert, Boise, ID, Caryn (Michael) Long, Burlington, VT, and Bruce (Tamara) Tillman, Newbury Park, CA. 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Sunday, June 17, 2018, at Forest Lawn Chapel, 69855 East Ramon Road, Cathedral City. Celebration of Life to follow from 2:00 to 4:00pm at Palm Desert Greens Clubhouse, 73-750 Country Club Drive, Palm Desert.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made in Margie's name to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, PO Box 5028, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5028.
