Atkinson, NH: Margaret F. (Harrington) Kinney, 107, a resident of Atkinson for eighty-two years, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born and raised in Eastport, ME, daughter of the late Henry and Ethel (Chapman) Harrington, she moved to Merrimac, MA as a teenager and attended Merrimac High School. She went on to receive training as a nurse at the Hale Hospital School of Nursing.
Mrs. Kinney worked as a registered nurse at Glynn Memorial Hospital, Benson Hospital, MacBeth's Rest Home for Ladies, and finally at the Hale Hospital. She also assisted her late husband Clarence W. Kinney, in operation of Kinney's Garage, which was located on the family farm on Main Street in Atkinson.
Former member of the Women's Fellowship at the local and state level, and Deacon Emeritus of Atkinson Congregational Church, she was active in supporting the church and increasing its membership. A person who believed in service to others, she was also an active volunteer in the Town of Atkinson.
Mrs. Kinney enjoyed being a homemaker, cooking, baking, and serving her family, friends, guests, and the community. She loved the outdoors, flowers, and blueberry picking. She was very knowledgeable of the history of the Town of Atkinson and enjoyed sharing her many stories.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clarence W. Kinney, and is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles E. and Jeanine Kinney of Ossipee, NH, her daughter, Jacqueline J. Ray of Atkinson, eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son William C. Kinney.
There are no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral service and celebration of her life on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the Atkinson Congregational Church, 101 Main Street, Atkinson, NH.
