Margaret Gonzalez, a woman of grace, fortitude, and unwavering dedication, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, in Covina, California. Born on December 26, 1946, in New York, New York, Margaret was a radiant presence whose life journey was marked by both remarkable personal accomplishments and an enduring commitment to family, community, and service.

A proud graduate of Lawndale High School in California, class of 1965, Margaret distinguished herself academically as she stood at the pinnacle of her class. Her determination and poise carried her forward as she entered airline school for Western Airlines, where she again emerged at the top of her cohort. It was in 1965 that she boldly applied to Western Airlines; initially met with rejection, her resilience would not be thwarted. Returning with renewed vigor, a polished portfolio, and a steadfast spirit, she secured a position as a stewardess. Her bilingual fluency in English and Spanish earned her swift promotion to the esteemed role of first-class flight attendant, ferrying passengers to Mexico and elevating the travel experience with both warmth and professionalism. This chapter of her career, spanning approximately three years, set the foundation for what would become a lifelong dedication to public service.

In 1971, Margaret embarked upon a new and equally impactful career path with the City of Los Angeles. Beginning in the Community Development Department (CDD), she contributed her talents for a decade before transitioning seamlessly to the Economic Development Department. During the 1990s, she further distinguished herself within the Housing Department, where she became a trusted and respected advocate for tenants and property managers alike. Her tenacity, intellect, and compassionate approach resulted in a distinguished 30-year tenure across three vital city divisions, each benefitting immensely from her expertise and unwavering commitment.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Margaret—affectionately known as "Margie" by those closest to her—was a luminous soul whose character shone brightly. She was a woman of integrity who spoke candidly and honestly, never shying from telling things as they were. Yet beneath this frankness lay a warm and loving heart, ever ready to assist anyone in need. Her friendships and family relationships were treasured sacred bonds, nurtured through heartfelt conversations and shared moments of joy.

Margaret’s zest for life was reflected in her many interests and hobbies. She delighted in lively social gatherings, embraced the joy of karaoke and dance, and savored escapades to the beach alongside her devoted companion Fred. Her passion extended to cultural experiences, attending pow wows and museums that enriched her appreciation for history and tradition. A gifted cook and baker, she delighted in crafting diverse culinary creations, nourishing not only the body but also the soul of those around her.

Cherished memories abound among those who knew her best. Her family recalls the warmth of countless Christmas celebrations, joyful outings to Yosemite, and treasured Sunday rituals of movies followed by dinner shared between mother and child. Museums and air shows were sources of excitement and exploration, yet nothing brought Margaret greater happiness than being surrounded by family—whether at weddings, festive parties, or quiet gatherings—where laughter and love were abundant.

Margaret leaves behind a beloved circle of family who carry forward her legacy of love and strength: her son Ricco; sister Naomi; brother-in-law Carlos; cousin Joe; nephew Christian; niece Bridget; daughter-in-law Connie; and her beloved companion Fred. She is preceded in death by her father Enrique Gonzalez, mother Edith Gonzalez, brother Richard Gonzalez, and her husband Joseph Pantiga.
