Marcelino John Perez, a beloved father, grandfather, uncle, granduncle, and friend, passed away on November 18, 2024, in Anaheim, California, at the age of 88. Born on June 23, 1936, in Malabon, MetroManila, Philippines, he was affectionately known as John—Uncle and Lolo John to his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. He was proud to be the “last Perez man standing” of his generation.
John's journey through life was characterized by a deep passion for design and creativity, which he pursued throughout his esteemed career. He earned a degree in Industrial Design from the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. His professional journey included notable tenures with Universal Exhibits, Procraft, and Morasi, where his innovative spirit left an indelible mark. His contributions to the field of design were profound, and his work continues to inspire those who knew him.
A devoted Christian, John actively supported various churches and ministries including New Life Community Church (Artesia), Victory Light Christian Church (Carson), Arcadia Congregational Church, and Whole Wide World for Jesus Ministries (Glendale). In 2016, he became an active member of Church of Christ the Good Shepherd (CCGS) in Lakewood, where many of his close relatives are also members. A highlight of his life as a believer was joining the Holy Land tour to Israel, Jordan, and Egypt in 2017 with the CCGS congregation.
John is survived by his loving sons, Michael (Mike to family and Miguelito in his music career) and Kevin, along with Kevin's wife Lilian, who carry forward his legacy. John is also survived by Celinda Padolina Perez Graf, the mother of Mike and Kevin. John took great joy in his role as a grandfather to Kyra, Noah, and London. He held a special place in his heart for his goddaughter, Belen Perez Miranda, and godson Rangie Perez Tinio, who, along with Kyra, provided dedicated care for him during the last four years of his life, together with his other numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws. Their collective support exemplified the strong family bonds he cherished.
John was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Generosa (Rosie) Samaniego Perez, whose memory he treasured. Their love and partnership served as an enduring example to all who witnessed it.
As we remember John, we reflect on a life richly lived—filled with love, creativity, a profound commitment to family, and most significantly, a faithful servant of our Lord Jesus Christ. He will be deeply missed; however, his legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
