Lyman Schoonmaker Gronemeyer of Bel-Air and Malibu, CA passed peacefully on January 17th, 2018 at the age of 81. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and entertainment attorney.
Lyman was born on November 27, 1936 to Frederick and Helen Gronemeyer in Kingston, NY. The family moved throughout the United States during Lyman's youth before settling in Los Angeles when he was a teenager. Lyman graduated from University High School in Los Angeles in [1954] before attending UCLA where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Political Science in 1957, a Juris Doctorate in 1960, and a Masters of Business Administration in 1961.
Lyman held legal positions at Aerojet, Capital Records, Cinema Center Entertainment (CBS), and Universal before moving to 20th Century Fox in 1972 where he eventually held the position of Executive Vice President Deputy General Counsel of Legal Affairs before his retirement in 1998.
A devout Presbyterian, he was actively involved at Bel-Air Presbyterian Church serving as a deacon and, from 1965 to 1967, the President of the Bel Air Single Young Adults (BASYA). While President of BASYA, he met his wife of 49 years, Cheryl (Dosch) Gronemeyer.
An avid water-skier, Lyman spent summers with family and friends either behind the wheel or crisscrossing the wake of his water ski boat at Shaver Lake.
Lyman is survived by his wife Cheryl, sons Mark Gronemeyer (Melanie Guerra) of Westwood, MA and Eric Gronemeyer (Tracey Horton Gronemeyer) of Malibu, CA, and grandchildren Britt (15), Ava (12), and Maisie (10).
A memorial service is scheduled for 2PM on January 29, 2018, at Bel-Air Presbyterian Church, 16221 Mulholland Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90049. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Lyman's life.
Having seen the effects of Multiple Sclerosis on his wife Cheryl, Lyman spent much of his time caring for his wife, learning about the disease, and supporting the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society.
