Luz Valentina Huerta Macias "Grandma Tina” or “Tina," age 83, of Cathedral City, California passed away on June 19, 2026. Tina was born on April 26, 1943 in Tepatitlán de Morelos, Jalisco México to the late Salvador and Maria del Socorro Macias. She was the oldest of 13 children. Tina would grow up to be a modern woman, with traditional family values and a devout Catholic.
Tina’s early years in Mexico were spent helping her family raise her siblings. As a young woman her love of Mexican culture led her to participate in Mexican Folkloric dancing along with her siblings. Tina also had a great voice and performed in the choir. She was passionate about art, cooking and reading. She worked as an elementary school teacher and as an executive secretary for law, engineering and accounting firms. She developed a passion for education, a passion she would pass on to her children.
After suffering several family tragedies including the loss of her mother. Tina would immigrate to Los Angeles, California in 1975 in search of new opportunities. It was during this time that she met her husband, Fidel Huerta, while both learning English at Bassett Adult School. In 1976 they would return to Guadalajara, Jalisco to be married and soon start a family. Tina would have three children, Gerardo (1977), Jeffery (1979-2023 RIP) and Jessica Maria Huerta (1982). In 1986 she moved her family to the greater Palm Springs area. Tina along with her family would spend the rest of her life traveling between Los Angeles, the Greater Palm Springs area and Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.
As a mom Tina was really nurturing, kind and caring. Although she was a strict disciplinarian, she was a great mother, homemaker, and a wonderful cook. She really enjoyed cooking her family recipes that were passed down from generation to generation. Family recipes that she would eventually pass on to her three children and grandchildren. As a mom Tina would work several jobs but most notably as a caregiver, florist, and librarian assistant. Her hard work ethics and compassion would inspire her three children for the rest of their lives. She was a soccer mom, baseball mom, dance mom, room mother, scouting mother, martial arts mom, music mom and active with her church. She was very involved in her family life.
Tina was a social butterfly. She was the type of person that could talk to anyone, from all walks of life. After retiring, she enjoyed spending time with her family and of course traveling. Her travels include most of Mexico from Cancun to Baja California, the United States from California to North Carolina and internationally from Belize, Canada, France, Italy and Switzerland.
Tina was a grandmother to seven grandchildren. She enjoyed celebrating many birthday parties, church events, camping trips, soccer games, cheerleading tournaments, museums, concerts, movies, barbecues and beach days with her grandchildren to say the least.
Tina is lovingly survived by her husband Fidel Huerta of 49 years of marriage, her son Gerardo and daughter Jessica Maria Huerta, her seven grandchildren Amaziha and Giovanni Huerta, A’Juliani, Aliyah, Jaylene and Ricky III Timothy and Anahi Soriano, her siblings Orfalinda, Blanca Alicia, Eliezer, Ruben and Georgina Macias She was preceded in death by her parents Salvador and Maria del Socorro Macias, her siblings Salvador II “Chavita”, Fabio Martin, Sergio, Carlos, Salvador III “Chava”, Oscar Alejandro, Jose Luis “Chito” Macias and her son Jeffery Huerta.

Tina nació el 26 de Abril de 1943 en Tepatitlán de Morelos, Jalisco, México, hija de los difuntos Salvador y María del Socorro Macías. Ella era la mayor de 13 hijos. Tina crecería para ser una mujer moderna, con valores familiares tradicionales y era una católica con mucha devoción.
Los primeros años de Tina en México los pasó ayudando a su familia a criando a sus hermanos. Cuando era joven, su amor por la cultura mexicana la llevó a participar en el baile folclórico mexicano junto con sus hermanos. Tina también tenía una gran voz y cantaba en el coro. Le apasionaba el arte, la cocina y la lectura. Trabajó como maestra de escuela primaria y como secretaria ejecutiva para firmas de derecho, ingeniería y contabilidad. Desarrolló una pasión por la educación, una pasión que transmitiría a sus hijos.
Después de sufrir varias tragedias familiares, incluida la pérdida de su madre. Tina emigraría a Los Angeles, California, en 1975 en busca de nuevas oportunidades. Fue durante este tiempo que conoció a su esposo, Fidel Huerta, mientras ambos aprendían inglés en la Escuela de Adultos de Bassett. En 1976 regresarían a Guadalajara, Jalisco, para casarse y pronto formar una familia. Tina tendría tres hijos, Gerardo (1977), Jeffery (1979-2023 RIP) y Jessica Maria Huerta (1982). En 1986 trasladó a su familia al área de Palm Springs. Tina junto con su familia pasarían el resto de su vida viajando entre Los Ángeles, el área de Palm Springs y Guadalajara, Jalisco, México.
Como madre, Tina era muy cariñosa, amable y comprensiva. Aunque era una disciplinaria estricta, era una gran madre, ama de casa y una cocinera maravillosa. Ella disfrutaba cocinando sus recetas familiares que aprendió de generación en generación. Recetas familiares que eventualmente pasaría a sus tres hijos y nietos. Como madre, Tina trabajaría en varios trabajos, pero sobre todo como cuidadora, florista y asistente bibliotecaria. Su gran esfuerzo de trabajo y compasión inspirarían a sus tres hijos por el resto de sus vidas. Era madre de fútbol, madre de béisbol, madre de baile, madre de salón de clases, madre de exploración, madre de artes marciales, madre de música y activa con su iglesia. Ella estaba muy involucrada en su vida familiar.
Tina era una mariposa social. Ella era el tipo de persona que podía hablar con cualquier persona, de todos los ámbitos de la vida. Después de jubilarse, disfrutó pasar tiempo con su familia y, por supuesto, viajar. Sus viajes incluyen la mayor parte de México desde Cancún hasta Baja California, los Estados Unidos desde California hasta Carolina del Norte e internacionalmente desde Belice, Canadá, Francia, Italia y Suiza.
Tina era abuela de siete nietos. Disfrutó celebrando muchas fiestas de cumpleaños, eventos de la iglesia, viajes de campamento, partidos de fútbol, torneos de porristas, museos, conciertos, películas, carnes asadas y días de playa con sus nietos, por decir lo menos.
A Tina le sobreviven con mucho amor su esposo Fidel Huerta de 49 años de matrimonio, su hijo Gerardo y su hija Jessica Maria Huerta. Sus siete nietos Amaziha y Giovanni Huerta, A'Juliani, Aliyah, Jaylene y Ricky III Timothy y Anahi Soriano, sus hermanos Orfalinda, Blanca Alicia, Eliezer, Ruben y Georgina Macias. Fue precedida en la muerte por sus padres Salvador y María del Socorro Macías, sus hermanos Salvador II "Chavita", Fabio Martin, Sergio, Carlos, Salvador III "Chava", Oscar Alejandro, José Luis "Chito" Macias y su hijo Jeffery Huerta.
