Luria Jean Purifoy

October 16, 1955 — January 6, 2019

Luria Jean Purifoy, age 63, was called home to the Lord on Sunday, January 6, 2019. She was born in Chidester, Arkansas to the late E.B. Purifoy and Edna Mae Alexander Purifoy on October 16, 1955. Jean was the fourth child of five children but that did not stop her from being the boss. Her siblings affectionately called her boss lady. Jean was raised in a small town with her four siblings. As a child, Jean was free spirited, bold, independent, and full of joy. Jean accepted Christ early in her life at Good Hope AME Church in Chidester.

After graduating from Chidester High School Jean moved to Rockford, Illinois where she began her career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. In 1988, she made a fearless life changing decision and moved to Los Angeles, California. She continued her career as a services representative for Pacific Bell Telephone Company (AT&T). She later retired from the phone companies and devoted her time to charity, family, and friends.

Jean was a member of the Queen of Sheba Chapter #7 Order of the Eastern Star, PHRD, State of California in Los Angeles. Jean was a Past Matron of the chapter from 2015 to 2016.

Family and friends were Jean's passion and delight. She visited her family and friends in Arkansas as often as she could. Any chance she had, she was opening her doors to host and entertain family and friends. She would frequently host brunch parties at her home where she made her infamous chicken and waffles. Jean loved sushi, dancing, and watching her favorite sports on TV with a lot of volume. She loved supporting and cheering her godson on at his various extracurricular activities. She could be downright goofy at times and very passionate about life. Her personality was charming, affectionate and very caring which allowed her to be influential to so many people.
Jean is survived by her four siblings and an honorary sister, Earnest Jr. Purifoy, Arnie (Jeanette) Purifoy, Annie Moore, and Ruthie Purifoy of Arkansas and Rhonda Orange of Gardena, California. In addition, she leaves to cherish her memory her nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins and loving friends.
