Luisa Duque Academia

Luisa Duque Academia passed away on April 16, 2020 in Anaheim, California at the age of 87.

Luisa was born on August 29, 1932 in Andres Bonifacio, a small barangay in the municipality of Llanera, province of Nueva Ecija, Philippines. She was the fourth of Hilario Duque and Magdalena Macam's seven children. She obtained a degree in Education from San Jose College and went on to teach at different elementary schools for approximately 20 years. During college, she met Juan T. Academia, whom she married in January 2, 1951 and had seven children with. She loved singing and dancing, was fond of playing softball in high school, and was always the light of the party. Her smile and laughter were contagious.

Luisa immigrated to The United States of America in 1980. She gave up her life in the Philippines and sacrificed comfort and familiarity for a hope of a better life in America for her family. She landed different jobs and worked countless hours to send money to her children in the Philippines and to finance their education. With God's blessing, she successfully brought her entire family to America in the late 1980s. She was full of pride and joy after reuniting with her husband and children. Luisa loved her family and was proud of all their accomplishments.

Luisa is survived by her loving children, Sadiri, Lourdes, Ligaya, Gasat, Liwa, and Imnas, as well as her children-in-law, Encarnita, Emily, Saad, Rod, Marjorie, and Vincent, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her sisters, Maria, Rosario, Virginia, and Editha.

Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Cypress, California.
