Obituary of Luis Alberto ("Chicho") Pacheco, 11/08/1945 â 10/27/2014
Luis Alberto ("Chicho") Pacheco was born on November 8, 1945 in Guayaquil, Ecuador, to Jose Ignacio Pacheco and Raquel San Andres de Pacheco. Luis was a natural athlete, and he started playing baseball at the age of eight. He progressed through youth baseball programs in Guayaquil, and developed into a key member of teams that represented Ecuador in international competitions, including the national teams that represented Ecuador in the Pentagonal Internacional de Béisbol of 1964 in Lima, Peru, and the Bolivarian Games of 1965 in Quito, Ecuador.
As a young man Luis came to Los Angeles and became a resident, joining two of his sisters, Gladys and Eugenia, who had previously moved there. While living and working in Los Angeles, he met a beautiful young woman named Ana-Maria Moran, who had also come to Los Angeles from Guayaquil. They were married in Los Angeles on April 19, 1969. They worked together in the garment manufacturing business owned by Ana-Maria's parents, Andres and Ana Moran; and in 1976 they established their own garment manufacturing business, Ecua-Sportswear, Inc. They operated this business in Los Angeles for 29 years, providing employment for up to 30 people until they retired in 2005.
Luis and Ana-Maria were blessed with two children, daughter Annabelle and son Louis, and with six immensely-loved grandchildren: Annabelle and Jesse Rodriguez's children, Jonathan, Christian and Jovanna; and Louis and Elizabeth Pacheco's children, Alexxis, Andrew and Steven.
Luis remained a sports enthusiast throughout his life. He was an avid fan of the L.A. Dodgers and of the Ecuadorian national soccer team, among others; and Luis and Ana-Maria traveled to Germany in 2006 to see the Ecuadorian team compete in the FIFA World Cup finals. They loved to travel together, and made a number of trips to South America, the Caribbean, Mexico, Hawaii, Alaska and Europe; not to mention their frequent trips with family and friends to Las Vegas.
Luis was much loved by his family and many friends in the U.S. and Ecuador, and his warm and outgoing personality will be sorely missed. He was always fun-loving and enthusiastic; an instigator of innumerable family outings and an eager host to family and friends who gathered often at his home.
Luis passed away suddenly of heart failure on October 27, 2014 at the age of 68. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, great-uncle and godfather, he is survived by his wife of 45 years Ana-Maria; his two children Annabelle and Louis; his six grand-children Alexxis, Andrew and Steven Pacheco and Jonathan, Christian and Jovanna Rodriguez; his sisters Eugenia Pacheco, Gladys Delgado, Theresa Pacheco; his brothers-in-law Paul Deibel and Carlos and Andres Moran; his son-in-law Jesse Rodriguez and his daughter-in-law Elizabeth Pacheco; his father-in-law and mother- in-law, Andres and Ana Moran; his nieces and nephews Ibelisse Guerra, Berenice Alvear, Joe Delgado and Jorge, Xavier and Bernardo Vintimilla, John and Katherine Moran and Oswaldo Moran, Jr.; his grand-nieces and grand-nephews Carla, Marcelo and Felipe Guerra, Andrea and Daniela Ribadeniera, Tiffany Delgado, Teri Anderson, Anicia, Myra, Veronica and Alexandria Vintimilla and Xavier Vintimilla, Jr; and his god-children Francisco Rivera, John Moran, Carla Guerra, Teri Anderson and Anicia Vintimilla.
Luis will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him, but we trust he now is re-united with his parents and his sisters Frida Deibel and Amparo Alvear who have passed on before him. We also trust that we will all be re-united in due time by the will of God.
