Lucy R. Meraz

Lucy R. Meraz, 97, of Coachella, Calif., passed away July 24, 2015 in Coachella, Calif., of Natural Causes. She was born December 16, 1917 to Tomas Rodriguez and Tranquelina Rodriguez, in Mazatlan, Mex. She married Optaciano Meraz in 1934 in Brawley, Calif. She was an agriculture inspector for 40 years and a member of the Coachella Senior Center. She is survived by daughters, Gloria Arias of Thermal, Calif.; Martha and husband, John Rios of Indio, Calif.; sons, Optaciano Jr. and wife, Esther Meraz of Indio, Calif., Ralph Meraz of Palm Desert, Calif.; sisters, Yolanda Hill of Ontario, Calif. Maggie Holguin of Los Angeles, Calif.;14 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Optaciano Meraz; granddaughter, Diane Meraz; grandson, Christopher Rios; and son-in-law, Onesimo Arias. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 30, 2015 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with a funeral service to follow at, 12:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Soledad in Coachella. Interment will be at Coachella Valley Public Cemetery in Coachella. Reception to immediately follow graveside at Senior Center, in Coachella.
