In Memory of Lucius “Lou” Tyson February 3, 1948 – June 16, 2025
Lucius Tyson—affectionately known as “Lou”—was a man whose kindness, humor, and vibrant spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Born on February 3, 1948, Lou lived a life rich in service, laughter, and meaningful connections.
He served with honor in the United States Air Force for 20 years, followed by 22 years of dedication at Omnitrans. During his time there, Lou cultivated deep and lasting friendships—bonds that remained strong long after his retirement, a testament to the respect and affection he earned from colleagues and friends alike. After retiring, Lou devoted 12 years to volunteering at The California Route 66 Museum—a place he turned into his second home. With a warm smile and a sparkle in his eye, Lou greeted visitors like old friends. Many returned time and again, bringing their families just to see him.
One of the museum’s favorite photo opportunities was the 1966 Flower VW, and Lou turned it into a joyful tradition. He’d cue up “Born to be Wild,” encourage visitors to flash peace signs, and guide them through playful car movements, turning each snapshot into a memory filled with laughter and lightheartedness.
Lou’s passions were many—he was a devoted collector of model trains, Star Trek, Star Wars, Pocket Dragons, and more—reflecting his lifelong sense of wonder and imagination. At the VA hospital, he found meaning and fellowship through "Happy Feet," sharing stories and smiles with fellow Vietnam Veterans. His presence touched the hearts of both patients and professional staff alike.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Tyson, and his son, Lou Tyson Jr. and two grandchildren, who carry forward the joy, compassion, and strength he embodied every day. In addition, Lou’s life was deeply enriched by the enduring lifelong friendship of Joyce Reynolds; Bridget Williamson, Margaret Williamson, Patricia Bridges, and Susan Bridges. These lifelong friends shared in his joys, stood by him through challenges, and brought warmth, laughter, and unwavering support.
Lou will be remembered as a veteran, a volunteer, a storyteller, and a friend whose joy was contagious and whose kindness knew no bounds. He made life lighter simply by being in it.
