Lucille Joan Hutchinson
Lucille Hutchinson passed away Sunday, February 17, 2013. To all who knew her, she was full of life, humor, optimism, and of a giving and caring spirit. Lucille was born to Philip and Edna Forsyth (nee Gibson), August 29, 1931 in San Francisco, California.
Lucille was first and foremost a consummate educator, possessing knowledge and skills that set her apart from others in the field. Lucille began her higher education in San Francisco, California where she received her undergraduate B.A. degree from University of California Berkley. She went on to receive her Standard Teaching Credential from U.C. Riverside, her Designated Subject Credential at Cal State L.A., and her Master's Degree from the University of La Verne.
Upon completion of her teaching credentials, Lucille began her first teaching assignment at Sawyer's Business College. From there she went to Bonita High School where she served for 26 years. At Bonita Lucille established a strong business program, known throughout the valley for the preparation it provided for its students. Also, at Bonita she was department chair of the Business Department, and served as the advisor to the California Scholarship Federation where she was lovingly dubbed Mrs. Hutch. For the past sixteen years, since 1995, Lucille has served as a University Supervisor for the University of La Verne Teacher Education Program, where she enjoyed the pinnacle of her marvelous teaching career as a real "Teacher's Teacher".
Lucille returned some of the wonderful teaching experience she gathered in life by being active in the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a professional honorary society of women educators. She has served her Beta Mu Chapter sorority sisters as Second and First Vice-Presidents as well as Chapter President, offering her service as an expression of her loving and giving nature.
Lucille demonstrated her Christian faith on a daily basis, and gave back some of the love she received from her Christian Science Church by being an active member, serving as Church Secretary, and participating on the Board of Directors.
Lucille is survived by her two nephews Mark and Blade Geary, and their wives Pamela and Beverly. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 27, 11:30 a.m., in the Church of Our Heritage, at Forest Lawn Mortuary, 21300 Via Verde Drive, Covina, California.
