Lucila Leyble Lacanilao, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, and aunt, peacefully passed away on August 11, 2026 at her home in Long Beach, California, after a courageous battle with Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer. Born on September 16, 1958, in the Philippines, Lucila’s life was marked by unwavering devotion to her family and an enduring spirit that inspired all who knew her.

Surrounded by her loved ones in her final moments, Lucila’s transition was characterized by peace and freedom from pain, embodying the gentle resilience that defined her journey. Though her family grieves her absence, they take comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering, having been held and cherished until her very last breath.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Diosdado Lacanilao, who stood at her side through the years – a partnership rooted in love and respect. Together they raised a family that continues Lucila’s legacy of compassion, strength, and unity: daughters Jane and Jennina, sons JP and John Dave, and her treasured grandchildren – Pauline, Khloe, Alexa, Phoebe, Penelope, Jianna and Jordyn.  

She will also be endlessly missed and forever loved by her dear siblings: Felicidad, Leonila, Amelia, Lamberto, Rolando, Marivic, Evelyn, Lorenza, and Corazon. Each of them carries forward the warmth, wisdom, and kindness that Lucila so freely gave.

She was a mother, wife, sister, aunt, and grandmother whose embrace was a refuge, whose words were thoughtful and wise, and whose acts of love will echo in the generations to come. Lucila is also remembered by those who have gone before her into the light: her beloved mother, Aurelia Leyble, her father, Marcelo Leyble, her dear sister Irenea Sienes, her father-in-law Virgilio Lacanilao, mother-in-law Felisa Lacanilao, and her brother-in-law Art Nueva. Their loving spirits now reunite, just as her memory forever remains in the hearts of those who remain.

To honor Lucila’s remarkable life, her family, friends, and community are invited to pay their respects at visitations held at Forest Lawn - Cypress - Cypress Room, 4471 Lincoln Avenue, Cypress, CA 90630, on August 27, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and again on August 28, 2026, beginning at 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Funeral Service to celebrate her life will take place on August 29, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at Saint Lucy Catholic Church, 2301 Santa Fe Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90810, followed by her interment back at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cypress. 

In every sunrise, her family will recall her unwavering love, her comforting presence, and her gentle guidance. Lucila’s life was a beautiful testament to selfless devotion and quiet strength. Though her physical presence has departed, her spirit will forever illuminate the lives she so dearly touched.
