Lucie Reijgers

Lucie Banse Reijgers, beloved mother and grandmother died peacefully with family at her side, at the age of 96, in Bozeman, Montana on July 17, 2018. She will be celebrated with smiles and fond memories for years to come. Lucie led a remarkable life. She was born in Ambon, Indonesia, survived the Japanese occupation of Indonesia from 1942-1945 and escaped the Indonesian Revolution in 1950 to The Netherlands with her husband Jan, and their four children. In 1960 Lucie and Jan, now with seven children, immigrated to the United States seeking greater opportunities for their children, settling in Cortland, NY. Lucie took great pride in her home and children and could often be found cooking up a storm of food for family and friends alike in her small kitchen. Lucie enjoyed sewing and did tailoring at Tyler's Cleaners for many years. After retirement, she and Jan retired to California enjoying a return to the warm and sunny weather they longed for since leaving Indonesia.

Lucie will forever be in the hearts of her children who all survive her: Maria (Mieke) and Joop Kolster of Sun City, Menifee, CA; John and Kristine Reygers of Brewerton, NY; Lody and Jackie Reygers of Costa Mesa, CA; Roy and Anita Reijgers of Bozeman, MT; Ralph (Dick) and Cheryl Reygers of Freeville, NY; Sue and Rick Starr of Williamsburg, VA and Hedy and Arthur (Skip) Shedd of Manlius, NY. Lucie is also survived by 35 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren, all of whom she was so very proud. After 50 years of marriage, she was predeceased by her husband Jan in 1991.


Graveside services were held at Forest Lawn in Cypress, CA.
