In 1971, she moved to Los Angeles, where she met her future husband Rudy at a friend’s birthday party. They married on June 25, 1977 at St. Dominic’s Church. They bought their first home in Eagle Rock which is known as the “old house”. Her home welcomed people where she helped many start their life in California. As their family grew, Lourdes and Rudy then bought their dream home in Bradbury, California.
Lourdes has 3 children, Ronald “Ian”, Lisa, and Robert “RJ” and 8 grandchildren Ryan, Ryli, Lyla, Anthony, Olivia, Sophia, Lucia “Lucy” and James. She always shared her warmth and love as a grandmother in both small tokens of affection, like hugs and kisses, as well as support and enthusiasm for everything her grandchildren did.
Her long and prosperous career started off at Santa Marta Hospital, then to Kaiser Permanente in Sunset for 35 years. Lourdes also worked part time at Glendale Adventist Medical Center for over 30 years. After many years of working 16-hour days, she finally decided to retire at the end of 2016 to travel and tend to her garden to grow vegetables and fruit trees. Her favorite flowers were roses. During her retirement, she traveled on a pilgrimage to visit the Holy Land and Europe as sign of her devout religious beliefs. She loved her turtles and took pride in feeding them.
She was selfless, generous, loving. Lourdes always thought about others first. She helped many come to the United States. She always made sure you were fed and cooked enough food so that she could have enough to send home with visitors. Lourdes was always a grandmother that greeted you with a smile and a hug. She always made sure to ask “What do you want? Candy?” or “Did you eat already?” Magically, she would pull out a bag of snacks or candy.
Lourdes was loved and will be missed by many. We love you Nanay! Forever in our hearts.
