Louise Estrin Smith

Born in Los Angeles in 1929 to parents Isaac and Olga Estrin, Louise's family included her older sisters Nina and Sylvia. Her family traveled back to New York in 1932, where they lived in Brooklyn and the Bronx before returning to Los Angeles in 1939.

Graduated from Roosevelt High School in Boyle Heights in 1947. She received her Bachelor's degree from UCLA and began a career working in Bacteriology and Medical Lab Technology that spanned more than 40 years, including more than 25 years working as an inspector of medical laboratories for the Health Department of the State of California. She ended her career respected as a foremost expert on blood banking services.

Loving wife of Kenneth Roy Smith, who predeceased her in 1983. Devoted mother of David Allen Smith, born in 1955, currently residing in San Jose, California, and Dennis Andrew Smith, born in 1960, now residing in Los Angeles. Supportive grandmother of Lauren Smith and Erin Cheng. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends and professional colleagues.

Avid traveler, track and field fan, and lover of music, nature and social justice. Intelligent and outspoken, she lived an independent and self-resilient life to the very end. Above all, though, she held family dearest to her heart.
