Lorraine T. (provencher) Howes

July 12, 1935 — October 7, 2016

It's been said a beautiful soul is a beacon of love and light for others, and Lorraine Theresa (Provencher) Howes' light certainly shined brightly. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 81, on the morning of October 7, 2016, in Nottingham, NH. It is with great sadness her family and friends mourn her loss.

Born on July 12, 1935 in Lawrence, MA, Lorraine spent her adult life in different Massachusetts communities before moving to New Hampshire. She worked for two decades in circuit board assembly at Unitrode in Methuen, MA. Later in life, she became the beloved baby-sitter of her grandchildren, Douglas and Sara Drury.

Lorraine was a strong woman, dedicated to doing whatever she could for her family. To her, family always came first, and although she encountered obstacles, she overcame them so that her children and family members could live better lives. She cared for many, opening her arms and home to all those in need.

Her lifelong love of spiritual music began at the age of seven when she first sang in a church choir. From that point on, Lorraine dedicated herself to singing for the Catholic Church. She was the 11AM soloist at Saint Monica's Church in Methuen, MA for twenty years. Following her move north, she sang at Saint Michael's, Saint Anne's, and lastly, Mary Mother of the Church in Newton, NH.

Always ready with an easy smile or warm hug, Lorraine enjoyed crocheting, teaching her grandchildren how to play 45's and playing Bingo with friends. She was never found without a Word Search book in hand. But more than anything, she treasured spending time with her family. Those who loved her most called her Mom, Nana, GG, Auntie Pinky, and Pinky.

She is survived by her son, David Provencher and his wife, Heather, her daughter, Theresa Drury and her husband, Bill. Grandchildren - Ashley (Credit) Borges and her husband, Jonathan Borges, Ariana (Howes) Hazen and her husband, Chuck Hazen, Travis Provencher and his wife, Elisa Hughes-Provencher, Alecia Howes, Evan Provencher, Douglas Drury, and Sara Drury. Great-grandchildren – Emmett Hazen, Aaron, Hannah, and Caleb Borges, and Josh and Sora Smee . Siblings – Arlene Latimer, Denise Cooper, and Eugene Provencher and his wife, Pat. Aunts – Claire Scalise, Theresa Faw, and Monica Covey. And numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

Lorraine is predeceased by her parents, Eugene and Lorraine Provencher, her son, Edward F. Howes Jr., and her sisters, Jean Carol Provencher and Evelyn Rainville.

Our world lost a blessed soul in Lorraine's passing, and we, her family and friends, will miss her smiles and hugs, her listening ear, and her huge heart. Until we meet again.

Lord, please be with those I love who are far away.
Though I cannot comfort them, share with them,
I know that you can do all things And love them as I do.
(From Hallmark's Little Book of Prayer)
