Merrimac, MA: Lorraine M. (Constantine) Chevalier, 81, of Merrimac and formerly of Haverhill, MA died on December 31, 2014 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Born on June 15, 1933 in Malden, daughter of the late George and Nancy P. Constantine, she moved to Haverhill at the age of 8 and graduated from St. James High School with the Class of 1951.
Mrs. Chevalier worked for many years at the Helen P. Donaghue School in Merrimac first as an out-door-aide, then in the kitchen, and finally in the math program for eight years. She retired in 1992 from Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School, where she had been employed as a special needs teacher aide for thirteen years.
A member of the Nativity Church in Merrimac where she was former President of the Church of Nativity Women's Sodality, Mrs. Chevalier was a member of the Fire Department Auxiliary in Merrimac for over fifty years and served as secretary for over twenty-five years. She also served as secretary for the Ecumenical Council and was the former "Queen" of the Merrimac Red Hatters. A devoted and proud grandmother, Mrs. Chevalier enjoyed reading, cooking, and doing volunteer work for the town of Merrimac and for her church.
She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-nine years, Maurice S. Chevalier, two daughters, Sally A. Chevalier and Jayne M. Wallner, both of Santa Cruz, CA, a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen T. and Joanne Chevalier of Merrimac, a brother, George Constantine of Florida, a sister, Roberta Wentworth of Hernandez, FL, six grandchildren, Lauren Strob, Matthew Wallner, Angie Willette, Peter Wallner, Ryan Sawyer, and Nicole Chevalier, and four great-grandchildren, Kelley, Katie, Boston, and Bella. She was predeceased by her sister, Joan Constantine.
A private family graveside service will take place in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, PO Box 1893 Memphis, TN 38101.
