Lois Loraine Jackson

September 29, 1947 — March 18, 2013

Lois Jackson was born on September 29, 1947 to Leora and Levy Childress in El Paso, Texas. She was the sixth of eight children. She married Melvin Jackson and out of this union was born Amad and Jonn Jackson.

In High School she lettered in basketball, softball, volley ball (team captain), and track and field. She was also a colonel in the ROTC. She was the first one in her family to attend college graduating from the University of Texas El Paso with a BS in Social Work, and later earning her MSW from the University of Michigan. She first came to Los Angeles in 1974 and began working at L.A County USC Med Center as a bilingual social worker. She went on to work at Children's Hospital as a psychiatric social worker in the nephrology unit for 17 years. She completed her social work career at L.A County Mental Health as a Supervisor. Her greatest joy, however, was serving as an unofficial advisor, mentor, counsellor, aide, and financial planner to her family, friends, neighbors, and anyone else who was lucky enough to spend some time with her.

Lois was preceded in death by her Mother and Father Leora and Levy Childress, her sister Brenda, her sister Shirley, and her brother Levy Jr.

She is survived by her husband Melvin Lester Jackson, her sons Jonn and Amad Jackson, her sisters and brothers Finnis Shepard, Bobby Love, Jean De Mary, Clifford Childress, and Mardell Harvey, her grand daughter Vivian Jackson, and daughter in law Therese Nery, and a host of wonderful relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

--We'd like to thank everyone for their unwavering support and random acts of kindness through the years.
