Lois Elda Harmeyer

Lois Elda (Johnson) Harmeyer, 93, of West Covina, California, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026. Born at home in Altadena, California, on October 23, 1932, to Perry Alan and Della Christine Johnson, Lois grew up in Pasadena and graduated from John Muir College in 1950.

A woman of immense creativity and entrepreneurial spirit, Lois was a licensed cosmetologist who owned and operated the Busy Bee Beauty Shop for 23 years. Beyond her business, Lois dedicated her life to the performing arts, becoming a beloved leader in both the puppetry and magic communities. She was a 50-year member and past president of the Los Angeles Guild of Puppetry, served as treasurer for International Brotherhood of Magicians Ring #21 for decades, and was an active member of the Academy of Magical Arts at the Magic Castle. Her creative talents extended to building puppets for Seymore & Johnson Puppet Productions, crafting wigs and curtains for the famed Bob Baker Marionette Theater, and contributing to Jim Henson’s The Muppet Movie.

Lois was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Vicki Dianne, and her former husband, George Harmeyer.

She is survived by her two sons, David Andrew Harmeyer and his wife Michele of Azusa, California, and Michael Allen Harmeyer of Redondo Beach, California; and her two cherished granddaughters, Breanna Grace Harmeyer and Sophia Janelle Harmeyer.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Forest Lawn Covina Hills in Covina, California.
